By Rakesh Jha

Would you be happy to bear the cost of depreciation, taxes, and insurance when buying a new car? As prudent car buyers, you would not. It is always a good idea to buy a used car, and have someone else bear the aforesaid expenses. However, buying a good quality used car is a seemingly herculean task, since the car market is flooded with various unscrupulous dealers. Discover George Washington's Tavern in Alexandria

By Matthew Pressman

The historic Old Town of Alexandria, Virginia, oozes all the charm of the old world, offering visitors a superb sample of what life was like for our forefathers, and all in the shadow of our nation's capital and one of the World's leading cities, Washington D.C.

Boasting a great variety of architectural styles such as early American, Georgian, Federal, Colonial and Greek revival, a staggering amount of over 4,000 Old Town Alexandria structures are classified as historic buildings. Indeed, more than 200 date from as far back as the 18th Century, including the rapidly and cheaply constructed type of building known as a Flounder.

Indeed, some streets still retain the original cobblestone construction and the brick sidewalks of Old Town Alexandria, which when surrounded by the plethora of authentic historic houses all conspire to give visitors a totally authentic taste of the late 18th Century.

It was at this port that the Continental Army assembled and it was also at one of its still-existing taverns that the nation's first president would drink. Post Revolution, George Washington was said to have enjoyed a ride from his palatial home at Mount Vernon to Gadsby's Tavern in Alexandria, where he attended banquets and discussed the state of the nation with his peers over a beer or hard cider.

Although not named Gadsby's Tavern until the early 19th Century, it stands on the same spot as the original 1770s tavern patronised by Washington. However, today's Gadsby's is a much larger amalgamation of the original tavern, joined with the City Hotel - one of the first hotels in Alexandria, constructed in 1792.

These days it is a genteel drinking hole and restaurant that warmly welcomes both sexes, but back in Washington's time it was significantly different. The Taproom was certainly no place for a lady, being deemed far too rough for patronage of the fairer sex. In those days it would have been awash with men drinking, smoking and occasionally fighting.

By visiting the tavern's restored rooms it is still possible to get a sanitised flavour of the original tavern; bar tenders dress as they would have in the 18th Century. But, with no menus and no refrigeration, eating at the tavern was very different to today; food was laid out in the main room and consumed on the same day, as much as possible heaped onto a plate before a drinker retired to a seat to discuss matters with fellow patrons while eating and drinking.

As well as being patronised by Washington, other famous names from the past frequented Gadsby's, including founding fathers Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Monroe and James Madison. Many of those who visited the tavern during its early years almost universally acclaimed it as the 'finest tavern in America'. They would doubtless not be surprised to learn that their favourite tavern is still going strong some 230 years later.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars - The Way Of The Future?

By Andrew Regan

After the recent 2008 Geneva Salon International de l'Auto car convention, held between the 6th and 16th of March in Geneva, Switzerland, any self-respecting car enthusiast's first concern would likely be to find out the latest news from the motoring world. Among the most interesting cars unveiled at the auto show was Italian car manufacturer Pininfarina's new concept car, the Sintesi - Italian for synthesis - and designed to explore ideas and solutions for the cars of the future.

Using man's freedom over technology as a concept, the car was designed with a view towards a future where cars can disseminate intelligence from cross-media sources regarding traffic and security to create a continuous, transparent dialogue between the city, the road and vehicles without limiting the motorist's autonomy.

From the outside the Sintesi is a sleek sports car, but its aerodynamic exterior belies a unique design concept - rather than designing the car around its mechanics, the car and mechanics have been designed around the passenger space. The approach, known as "Liquid packaging", has overturned the car's volumetric balances, improving weight distribution and lowering the centre of gravity - giving the driver more physical space without compromising key dynamics which are essential for driving.

The car uses four modular hydrogen fuel cells - known as the Quadrivium Fuel Cells system - positioned near the wheels, with each providing 20kw of power per wheel; as well as an electric motor, with additional battery charge provided by solar panels and regenerative braking. Thanks to its sophisticated electronic architecture, the car makes modular use of the available power depending on driving conditions. Inside, the translucent dashboard displays the flow of information received and processed in real-time, lighting up when matters requiring the driver's attention occur. The car's headlights also play a part, using tele-cameras and a proximity radar system to ease the processing of information.

Though the concept of cars such as the Sinesti dominating the roads might seem like a far-fetched science fiction scenario, the concept is built on technologies already available, and could in theory create safer and better flow of traffic in the near future.

The Sinesti received much coverage in motoring news publications, both offline and online, prior to its unveiling in Geneva thanks to a teaser campaign website that received over 250,000 hits since it was launched in December.

Car enthusiasts wishing to find out additional information about the Sinesti and other motoring news are currently spoilt for choice, with dedicated websites, forums and RSS feeds ensuring that information regarding the motoring world is only a click away.

Are All Hybrids the Same?

By Keith Graat

So you're in the market for a hybrid car and think all hybrids are the same? Better think again as there are a number of different types of hybrid vehicles available and even more on the way. Buyers need to be informed and realize that hybrid vehicles can be drastically different in terms of both technology and the hit to your checkbook. In the following article I will breakdown the different technologies available and help you determine what is best for you.

Full Hybrids

At this point most people would agree that these are the best types of hybrids currently available. They operate using two separate propulsions systems, the internal combustion engine and the electric motor which can work independently of each other. Under certain driving conditions, typically low speed, the car can operate purely on the electric motor. Full hybrids use regenerative braking which takes energy that would normally be lost and uses it to charge the hybrid battery packs.

Full hybrids usually achieve very good fuel efficiency. At this point full hybrids can be more expensive than the other type hybrids cars, but the price should come down as popularity increases.

An example of a full hybrid is the Toyota Prius.

Mild Hybrids

Car manufacturers in a rush to capitalize on hybrid sales, created a breed of hybrid vehicles called mild hybrids Upon closer examination you will come to realize that many of these "mild hybrids" are as much a hybrid car as a vehicle with a turbocharger, which is why many people do not even consider these hybrid vehicles. In a mild hybrid car the electric motor is not connected to the powertrain like in a full hybrid. The electric motor will assist the internal combustion engine, but is incapable or propelling the vehicle on its own. Mild hybrids certainly aren't a bad thing but they do have the tendency to mislead the consumer. They are much cheaper to manufacture, are not as complex, and do achieve a slight increase in gas mileage. The Chevrolet Malibu hybrid is one example of a mild hybrid and it only nets approximately 2mpg more than its non hybrid counterpart.

Plug-In Hybrids

Plug-In hybrids at this time are not available from any car manufacturer, but you can expect to see them in the near future. The plug-in hybrid uses the internal combustion engine only as a backup to the electric motor. These hybrids can be plugged into a normal household electrical outlet to charge, but in addition they can also use the same charging capabilities of a full hybrid. While full hybrids utilize the electric and internal combustion engine all the time, plug-in hybrids will only use the internal combustion engine as a backup when the electric motors batteries run out of juice. At this point the car will operate as a full hybrid. Plug-In hybrids are expected to achieve better fuel efficiency than the other hybrids and many people see this technology as the future of hybrid technology.

At this time there are a few companies that will convert your full hybrid, like a Toyota Prius, into a plug-in hybrid, but they are more of a novelty at this point as they are cost prohibitive.

Performance Hybrid

Electric motors can offer instant torque unlike a conventional combustion engine. Some companies realized that you can take a smaller gasoline motor and pair it with an electric motor to get the performance of a much larger engine, and also get good fuel efficiency. A good example of this would be the Lexus GS450h which is capable of going 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, but gets a respectable 25mpg city / 28mpg freeway. The great thing about performance hybrids are the cars can get the performance of a V8 engine, but get the fuel efficiency of a smaller motor.

In closing, be sure to do your homework when buying a hybrid car as some hybrids might not be what you expected in terms of fuel efficiency or price. A car can have a badge that says hybrid on it but only get 17mpg. All of the above technologies have their place and it should be very exciting to see what the future holds for hybrid technology.

Repo Car Auctions - Myths and Truths

By Joseph Huck

How much money can we save by using Repo Car Auctions? Well, it really depends on the type of car that you want. The newer the car, the higher the price will be! But as a rule of thumb, a discount of 50%-90% is highly possible for an average car in Repo Auto Auctions. That is a huge sum of savings, and will help you change your car much more regularly than before!

However, if Repo Car Auctions can save us that much money, why doesn't everybody using it now? That's a fair question, and the answer is: that's because not everyone knows about it! For a long time, Repo Car Auctions were secretive, and only inside dealers knew about time. Even today, it's still not as popular as it should be! That's why knowing about it alone can help you gain advantage over many people out there who have no idea about it!

Nevertheless, there are still some things that you may want to know before going to a Repo Car Auctions. Due to the fact that the cars there are normally seized by the government or banks, don't expect them to be at the highest quality! The cars have been used before, thus research is a must if you want to find a good deal at the auctions. But please don't be discouraged by that. Bringing a knowledgeable friend with you to the Auctions, checking the VIN number carefully, and inspecting the car you like thoroughly are usually enough to get your dream car at a price that everyone else is going to be jealous at!

This is just a fraction of what you should know about Repo Car Auctions. Find out more at Repo Cars HQ!

Best Car Lease Deal - The Rocket Hatch

By Daniel Brown Lamb

Performance cars are probably one of the most difficult to market in the world today and Vauxhall is one company that can attest to that completely. The company invested millions into its VXR brand of cars and it seems only in vain. Even behind all its comprehensive performance glory, the VXR is no match up against its rivals, like Volkswagen, Ford, and even Subaru. However, it seems all that is about to change once they launch the VXR 888, a proverbial next step in performance technology.

First off, this best car lease deal has a whopping 225 horsepower tuned engine, which makes it the most powerful model in its category. It also looks the part as well, not one to give off signs of weak build or quality. All black alloy wheels and a low profile give this super-mini a look that can only be described as "almost crazy", what with its wings and air vents on the bodywork. The new exhaust system is designed by Remus, and this car certainly makes its presence felt as its much louder than standard, its low notes bordering on menace and not an unpleasant grumble. Power is not something to be underestimated either, because although you floor the gas pedal and nothing seems to happen quite yet, just wait a few moments and feel the turbo kick in to leave your competition in 3,000 rpm dust! This is definitely one of the top extreme road cars that Vauxhall has built.

Inside, the seats are no longer standard, but anybody who buys one of these will be surprised to see extreme-design bucket seats that are more comfortable to sit in than to look at. The driving position is adjustable and aside from the exhaust noise, the interior cabin is probably one of the other things that will turn consumer heads for a second look. There's no doubt that this is one of the best car lease deal hatches to be unleashed to the market and when it is released, prepare to be dazzled.

More car information can be found at the Car Leasing Secrets website.

Daniel Lamb is an avid fan of prototype vehicles and likes to read about the latest cars in the market. Find out more about best car lease deals on http://www.carleasingsecrets.com

Exploring the Ins and Outs of Gasoline

By Fei Lim

As the prices of gas continues to rise in the 21st century, motorists are yearning for the days when the substance that powered their cars cost less than $1 or even closer to $2. The demand for this influential resource has been outweighing the supply long before war broke out in the Middle East. The constant consumption of regular, leaded, unleaded, and now diesel fuel has placed a huge strain on reserves, which has caused prices to reach new heights.

The elevated cost of gasoline has greatly impacted the United States, as well as the rest of the world. The current energy crisis has forced scientists to seek out innovative ways of supplying energy and has encouraged consumers to find other methods of preserving fuel, such as riding a bicycle to work or purchasing electric cars.

In the future, the use of gas alternatives may gain more attention, especially since the following methods are less damaging to the environment: biodiesel, biobutanol, hydrogen fuel, ethanol, and bioethanol.

Taking a Brief Look at Gas Prices

In September 2003, the price of standard crude oil was less than $25 per barrel and with the help of inflation adjustments - it remained below the mark since the middle of the 1980s. However, a chain of events over the past couple of years has caused the price to increase to more than $60 in August 2005 and exceed the $75-mark by the summer of 2006. In October 2007, a barrel of crude oil was $92. The start of 2008 only heightened the continued rise in prices, establishing several record highs, including an inflation-adjusted all-time peak of $103.05 per barrel in February 2008.

Different Kinds of Gasoline

A mixture of liquid hydrocarbons and crude oil undergo a distillation process in order to generate gasoline. Gas was invented during the late 1850s after crude oil was discovered and researchers were able to fine ways on how to use this material. Early types of gasoline were created as a byproduct of the process that made kerosene fuel for oil lamps. Since the internal combustion engine had yet to become a reality - the majority of early gasoline was tossed away because no one had a use for the substance.

Today, the United States offers a wide-range of gasoline types. Finished motor gasoline consists of a complicated mixture of volatile hydrocarbons and other additives that help power spark-ignition engines. Reformulated gas mostly uses methyl tertiary-butyle ether as an oxygenate with three different kinds. For example, the exclusive oxygenated reformulated gasoline is typical only during the wintertime throughout the New York City region where heavy carbon monoxide pollution is found.

Gasohol is often a combination of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline mixture. Ethanol is a liquid that actually comes from the fermentation of some sugars located in agricultural crops or wood. However, the most widely available type is conventional gasoline, which has been designed to evaporate at a slower pace in hot temperatures, which creates less smog.

Overall, each type of gas (whether conventional, oxygenated, or reformulated) is available within three different grades: regular, midgrade, and premium. As a rule of thumb, premium gas offers an octane rating greater than 90, which contributes to its higher price per gallon.

The Lowdown on Gas Stations

With exorbitant prices, gas stations not only struggle to make a profit but to also find ways on how to entice consumers into purchasing their gas. Depending on the location of a gas station and company trend - a range of prices sees states like New Jersey and Missouri offering the lowest costs with California pushing the limits as of March 2008.

A couple of popular gas companies and stations within the United States and Canada include:

Chevron

Founded in 1879 in Pico Canyon, California - Chevron would grow to become the fifth largest global energy company - playing a major role in the oil and gas industry. Making great strides in exploration and production, Chevron is also responsible for Texaco found in Europe, United States and Latin America.

ExxonMobil

With a merger in 1999 that saw the combined power of three major companies - ExxonMobil is considered the world's largest company by revenue. The company also supports Exxon in the United States; Esse/Imperial Oil in Canada; and Mobil in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand.

Husky

Founded in 1938 as Husky Refining, the company focuses on petroleum and gas. Employing close to 4,000 people - Husky is known as one of Canada's biggest energy companies - which supplies Husky and Mohawk-brand gas.

Petro Canada

Established in 1975 in Ottawa, Ontario, Petro Canada is known as the second-largest company associated with various gas operations. Petro gas stations also offers a loyalty program called Petro Points, where consumers receive credits for fuel, car repair and store purchases.

Conoco Phillips

A merger in 2002 saw Conoco and Phillips join forces to become one of the six "supermajor" oil companies in the world. The company is responsible for heading Conoco in the southeastern and central region of the United States, Phillips 66, and other international ventures.

California Lemon Law

By Hector P. Sanchez

Everyday there are consumers in California who find themselves in a bad situation with regards to owning a defective automobile. Many don't even know that they are protected by the California Lemon Law. If you are not quite sure what the California Lemon Law is, it's probably a good idea to educate yourself, so that if you find yourself in a similar situation you will know what steps to take to ease your mind.

The Lemon Law in the state of California is also known as the Song-Beverly-Consumer Warranty Act. Another technical name it goes by is the California Civil Code Title 1.7. This particular law is meant to be used as guidance, and should be really known more as a provision, rather than a set rule. Many types of variables come in to play when one can fully consider their automobile a lemon.

The provision can apply towards personal and business vehicles, with certain guidelines that are set in place. Business use vehicles that may be protected under this provision include vehicles used for corporations, associations, and other various legal entities. The Lemon Law usually will apply towards a new vehicle during the first 18 months from the delivery date. It can also apply to vehicles within the first 18,000 miles of use.

A judge or an arbitrator that hears your case can ultimately make the decision as to weather or not the manufacturer did everything they could to fix the problem, within a reasonable amount of time. This also means that the manufacturer has the right to prove their case. At the same time, the consumer who owns the automobile also has the right to speak up and prove that the vehicle is not being repaired correctly within a reasonable amount of time.

If you seek out assistance and search for more information about the California Lemon Law, understand that it is highly recommended that you keep copies of all your paperwork that you have acquired since the purchase of your automobile. Having a timeline or a paper trail can help quite a bit when you need to reference important facts about your defective automobile.

The state of California takes part in the Arbitration Certification Program, a program which fully explains the Lemon Law in full detail. If you live in Los Angeles for example, the first important step you can take is to make use of the lemon law lawyers Los Angeles has to offer. It is essential that you speak to a lawyer or an attorney that know the facts when it comes to a defective automobile that can not be repaired.

Hector P. Sanchez is the publisher of Lemon Law Case, a website offering valuable lemon law information to those who believe their vehicle can legally be classified as a lemon. Obtain useful lemon law facts, tips, and essential information necessary to understand the protection under the lemon law provision.

Defensive Driving - What Does It Mean?

By Alex Baumm

Unfortunately, more and more drivers don't want to become defensive drivers nowadays which increases chances of accidents related to driving and cars. This is something not only confined in a single locality, community, state or country as this is rather a global phenomenon.

Driving should be something fun and safe and not scary and dangerous if we only practice simple things relating to defensive driving. These things are not so hard to do as they are merely matters of routine and discipline. Defensive driving is a matter of practice too as with other skills we acquire.

So, what basically is defensive driving?

Defensive driving is driving characterized by prudence, diligence and reasonable cautiousness with the goal of making the road a safe place not only for a defensive driver but for other people, as well.

It will not take an Einstein to realize the significance of defensive and driving and it will not also take a Newton to be a defensive driver. This is because for the most part defensive driving is common sense put into practice.

So here are some tips you can remember so that you become defensive drivers without need of spending money to attend a driving school.

1. Follow traffic rules. This is perhaps the most basic but the most neglected of all. Make sure you observe traffic rules like no overtaking, no over speeding whatsoever because they will not be made as rules as such if there is no wisdom behind them.

2. Be aware of traffic signs and symbols. If there is a sharp curve symbol make sure you follow the idea behind the sign - slow down and do not overtake even if the urge is almost uncontrollable.

3. Be aware of the other driver and maintain proper distance. It is almost absolute that we are not aware of the kind of person the driver of the other auto is.

So, just to be certain that we don't get in trouble we should always maintain enough distance from the auto in front that if the driver suddenly steps on the brake without signaling that intention first, you can have the sufficient opportunity to avoid any accident.

4. Check your car before you use it. Check if the brakes are properly working. Check if the engine is in good condition.

5. Observe proper speed especially in superhighways. These are some things you can bear in mind every time you drive. They are simple things that can make you a defensive driver.

With the increase in number of cars falling in line every day on our major roads, the complexity there is in driving is also aggravated. The need to make ourselves skillful particularly on defensive driving techniques becomes even more evident and necessary.

In order to mitigate the tendency of suffering from vehicular accidents, we should always make certain that we keep in mind these defensive driving tips. Driving indeed need not be that risky and dangerous we only have to practice defensive driving and we can be assured that our experience on the road will be much more fun than ever.

At a Car Club there is lots of information on Defensive Driving, Auto Detailing etc. Alex Baumm

Parallel Parking Mistakes During the Road Test

By Nadav Snir

Parallel parking is one of the hardest, if not the hardest, skill to master for the driving test. It involves backing up, coordination, understanding the proper use of side mirrors, and precise distance estimation. When these don't join together well, a bad parking comes up, which sometimes lead to a bad test result.

One tiny mistake is not signaling before beginning to park. Before any parallel parking the student should signal to let other drivers know what he is doing. However, some students forget to signal. It is only a minor error, but it can make the difference between a pass and a fail.

Another mistake, much bigger, is wrong distance estimation. Instead of being close to the car the student parks behind, he stands far from it. This often leads the parking into a dead end, since he needs more parking space for that, and if there is also a car behind, the parking is doomed to fail.

Hitting the curb is a major mistake in many areas and an automatic test failure. When backing up, some students don't know when to turn their wheel, so they get too close to the curb. When they do turn the steering wheel it's already too late, and the car hits the curb. When this happens, the test is almost always a failure.

There is a more serious mistake than hitting the curb, and that is hitting a car, or even worse, a pedestrian. This happens when the examinee doesn't look back or just stares forward. It is a definite failing score in the test and a very bad feeling for the student. If the student hits a pedestrian, it can also be dangerous.

Not looking back, even without hitting anything, is another serious error during the driving test. When backing up, the student should look in the rear window and the mirrors. Failing to do so is also a reason for the examiner to fail the student on the spot.

Parallel parking requires many hours of practice. In some places, it is not a required skill for the parking test, but any driver should be able to do, especially if he lives or works in a big city. The practice must be with the proper guidance, or else any student would face hardships when practicing this skill.

You can find a suitable guide for passing the driver's license test on the Pass Your Road Test area of Great-Info-Products.com.

Make Your Gas Credit Card Work For You

By Tom Tessin

If you're not saving on your gas fillips yet, you should be doing so. Everything in life that cost money has a way around it so you don't have to pay full price. So, how exactly do you save on gasoline fillips? The concept is simple if you know how to use it. It's called a gas credit card.

A gas credit card can you work you wonders if you know how to use it right. If you're not good with credit cards or you simply have a really bad credit score, I would advise that you steer clear of a credit card like this because if you don't pay your bill off in time, you're not going to get the full benefits of a gas card.

If you already have a gas card or you're thinking about applying for one, you're going to have to know how to make the rewards work for you before you actually start swiping the card at the local drug store. By now, you should know that for every dollar you don't pay off on your credit card bill, you're going to be charged with the APR rate. Depending on your card, this will vary but a majority of the times, it will be above ten percent depending on the credit.

The reason you're going to want to pay off your bill in full each month is because if you don't, just put two and two together. If you have a one thousand dollar bill and you only pay off nine hundred dollars, you'll have one hundred dollars to spare. Those one hundred dollars are going to be tacked with the APR. That difference alone won't be equal or less than the rewards you're getting because let's say you get three percent knocked off that one thousand, that's thirty dollars, if that. Now, with the one hundred dollars, if your APR rate is fifteen percent, you're going to pay fifteen dollars for every hundred dollars each year. This can add up quick.

How can I pay off my bill in full?

This is so easy, it's incredible. Before you make a purchase with your plastic, make sure you know how much money you have on hand. This will include your checking account, etc. If you don't have enough money to make the purchase, simply don't make it. You're going to have to treat your credit card as if it were a gift card. If you can use this concept, you'll make the most out of your rewards. If you know you can't do this, then a credit card won't be for you.

A credit card can work wonders for you at the pump, it's up to you to make sure you discipline yourself. No one else is going to help you but yourself. If you can play the game right, the rewards will work for you. If you know you can't play the game right, then as I said a few other times, it would be best you stick to hard cold cash.

Tom Tessin is an author for FINDgascards.com that is geared toward people looking to save on gas with a gas credit card

One of the great ills plaguing our society today is road accident claiming lives and property. Indeed, the menace of road accident is seriously and dangerously threatening the very existence of our own society. Our newspaper in screaming headlines, report almost daily on the incidence of road accident here and there all over the country. Lives are no more safe? Can one day pass without a road accident? There is a general feeling of insecurity on our roads. As a result of re-occurring of road accident, people have given series of suggestions concerning how the case of road accident can be checked. But do we proffer solutions to something its causes have not been identified? My view, therefore, is that the causes of road accident be traced before it can be checked.

First, the deplorable state of the nation's roads is unremarkable. Very narrows roads and roads without road marks or lanes are common in this part of the world. There are several instances where drivers try to avoid potholes only to collide at high speed with oncoming vehicles. There are many cases while driving; the driver will not see oncoming vehicles due to up-hilly topography on our roads. Most of our roads are covered with trees and weed, which obstruct the sight of drivers. Can we have a local, state and federal government that will use tax payers' money to build good and durable roads? Can we have a system where such roads will be maintained regularly? If the government of our day can spend good money to build and maintain our roads this will help life safety.

Likewise, the rate at which the tanker and trailers' drivers disturb and damage the road is alarming. If most of our roads are dualised and there are separate roads for trailers, our roads will be accident free and drivers will travel smoothly. There should also be an alternative to major roads in case of any traffic jam on the road, this will prevent many road users from spending too much time on the road.

In addition, Alcohol is a contributor to road accident. You may have heard it many times: 'drinking and driving do not mix'. Unfortunately, not many people pay heed to this advice. Most accident has occurred under the influences of intoxicating drinks. The matter of alcoholic consumption by drivers is a major threat, which has little or no attention in the past years. The threat posed by the drunk drivers has reached an unprecedented level and Nigeria rather than a witness a decrease in fatalities caused by drivers driving under the influences of alcohol like most countries involved in the fighting against road safety crisis, is having a dramatic increase in road crashes. Such avoidance road crashes should be blamed on poor enforcement, which has been largely attributed to lack of breath-testing facilities, inadequate resources of the FRSC (Federal Road Safety Commission). Scientific evidence and acknowledged research findings prove that consumption of alcoholic by drivers is a contributory factor to increase in roads accident in developing countries. Countries that have experienced drastic reduction in road crashes are due to zero tolerance of alcoholic while driving and anti-drink driving. A bill should be passed compelling all alcohol manufactures to act socially responsible either by providing a counter measure to the negative effects of their products and establishment of an agency that will militarize against Drunk Driving.

Similarly, ignorance and illiteracy also contribute to the increase rate of automobile accident. It is a pity that many road users perish due to lack of knowledge. Most of our drivers are illiterate, they do not understand for instances, traffic light, traffic rules, even the use of vehicle light. Imagine how beautiful life will be if all Nigerian drivers on our roads know the importance of attending the mandatory driving school! Imagine if they could pass the driving test in theory and practical. There is a need for more public enlightenment for all road users on road related regulations. Roads users should have first aid knowledge because this will go a very long way to save the lives of accident victims. To a very appreciable extent, lack of education and non-attendance at a driving school are taking toll on human lives. Also, introducing of defensive driving technique will help prevent collisions, reduce the effect of collision and survival driving to stay alive.

Moreover, under-age and unlicensed drivers are contributing factor to road accident. Anybody who is not full of age (below 18 years) and drivers who are even above 18 years and are not licensed to driver on the road should be prohibited from using our roads. Some drivers' carries expired driving license having the wrong believe that once licensed, forever a driver. Parent should take keener interest in what their children do, to guide against under-age driving, drivers carrying expired driving licenses should not use the road until such licenses is renewed. Law enforcement agents should be up and doing on their jobs. Traffic offenders should be treated as such without fear or favour.

Similarly, the rate at which drivers drive recklessly cannot be over emphasized. Some of them see over-speeding as a display of ego, some even enjoys it. But come to think of it, how can driver control his car in case of an unexpected obstacle on the road while driving at a very high speed? At times, passengers will even try to caution them but often time they prove stubborn. There should be a speed limit to which any driver should drive on the road and anybody who violates the rule should be prosecuted accordingly.

We need to look into the issue of the kind of vehicles used on the road. The age of the vehicle is not the issue here but the road-ability of the vehicle should be of more importance. In an extremely strict manner, vehicles that are not road worthy should be sent to the recyclers ASAP. No vehicles should be on the road without having road lights, driving mirrors and other basic things. If using a car key cannot start a car, it has no business on the road in the first place. It can break down on the road at anytime and causing obstruction and accident subsequently. Similarly, any car that does fit should be thrashed. It should not be a matter of life and death to have car on the road.

Also, night road users should be discouraged. In fact, a law should be made against to forbid night travelling in country like Nigeria because of the poor state of its roads. Accident occurs in a broad daylight let alone driving in the night on poorly illuminated roads. Darkness on our roads made complicated by non-road worthy vehicle lacking driving light should be given attention, one should be able to distinguish a car is coming or a motorcycle.

On this note, Road safety as a subject should be advocated as part of our national school curriculum. Even as FRSC has extended her tentacles to the school in respect of Road Safety Clubs, we should not relent in actually having an entrant into the secondary and primary school curricula. Government should provide the enabling tools for FRSC in order to facilitate easy fulfillment of road safety mandate such as communication gadgets, towing vehicles, cranes, patrol cars and the likes. Besides, government should ensure that the FRSC operatives should be adequately remunerated so as to be well motivated and dispense with, with the urgency desired.

In conclusion, am optimistic that if all the solutions proffered are implemented, road accident will reduce to barest minimum if not totally eradicated. Therefore, our society will realize the goal of 'Safer Roads, Fuller Livers'.

2008-2009 Nissan Skyline GT-R

By Mark Graziano

The Nissan Skyline has been one of the most impressive cars ever built dating back to its inception in 1969. Back then it was a four door sedan which won thirty six races in less than two years. Fast forward to today, you will find a beautiful work of art which still has all the bloodlines of its predecessors, now accompanied by state of the art electronics and its first debut in the Americas.

The new GT-R is a twin turbo VR 38 motor, which pumps out an impressive 480 horse power. All this power allows the GT-R to accelerate from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. This is what Nissan claims on its website; however in its first actual test in Japan by Edmunds.com I believe, it accelerated from 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, impressive! All this power gets to the wheels via an all new six speed duel clutch transmission which can shift in two tenths of a second. After this power get through the transmission it is poured into an all wheel drive system with a tri-differential and all wheel drive transfer case.

Now I have been around to a few forums and I have read some comments on YouTube. One of the comments that keeps popping up is that it does not come with a traditional six speed manual configuration. I am guessing this is for two reasons. First, if you have a transmission that is designed for racing and can shift in 0.2 seconds why have a traditional manual? I am sure someone's retort will be, "its more fun." To that I say you are correct. However this does bring me to my second point. For those of you who do want to control your RPM's it does come with column mounted 6 speed sequential paddle shifters. Granted you do not have control over your clutch, but look at the bright side, you can't burn it out or grind gears.

The GT-R comes standard with 20 inch wheels and the performance edition has nitrogen inflated tires to lighten its curb weight. To stop this bad boy the GT-R is equipped with four internally ventilated 15" Brembo disk breaks which bring it from 60-0 in less than 120 feet. The GT-R also is equipped with a real time data display which lets you assess your driving skill in real time, something that is not found any other car in its price class. The GT-R starts at around $69,000 and maxes out just under $72,000.

I must say I am partial to the GT-R and I am very excited that it is coming to the United States for the first time. This car has been designed to run with Porsche's around the track and drag with the Z0-6. I am interested to see what the corvettes numbers look like this year and I await the road test to pit the GT-R against the Z0-6.

P.S. To all of you, who are thinking and commenting about the ZR-1 Corvette, just remember it's probably going to be around 20 to 30 thousand more than the GT-R.

Drive a Zenn and Achieve Zen

By Paul Fezziwig

The Zenn automobile is an electric car made in Canada with sales of 200 cars in the USA for 2007.

The Zenn gets the equivalent of 245mpg and costs $12750-17600 if you are lucky enough to live where it's approved for purchase.

Currently it cost approximately 80% less to fuel up a Zenn than a traditional car. This leads to less green house gas production and if your power is nuclear even less green house gases are produced. Along with the environmental benefits this car reduces dependency on middle eastern oil.

This car is made in Canada yet ironically only British Columbia has made it legal to sell in Canada. Which is an almost unthinkable reality for Quebec where it is actually produced, as the CEO Ian Clifford laments. I'm sure Mr Clifford is thinking of moving to another country to set up production every time he is forced to fill up his gas powered car in Canada. George Bush's and local state legislature's policies on the environment appear to be putting Canada's and Quebec's to shame.

Currently this car is classified as a NEV, 'Neighborhood Electric Vehicle' so it has speed limitations imposed on it of 25-35mph by law and is meant for slower speed neighborhoods or inner city areas with lots of traffic. There is a kit available online to reprogram the limit if you want a little extra and are willing to chance it. They hope to have a highway capable version out in 2009 and hopefully law makers will get behind them and raise their limits of 25-35mph to something a little more practical for city driving, 40-45mph would be plenty for the city where we often average 20mph or less in traffic. Why they aren't allowed to drive as fast as a scooter boggles my mind, it's infinitely more safe.

With most people using their cars for short trips of less than 40 miles this is looking like a practical alternative, or perhaps used as a second car for each household for shorter commutes. With the price of gas increasing every month I look forward to plugging my car in for a fill up using local coal or nuclear power, saving the environment, saving money and bringing the troops home, and then hopefully achieving some Zen.

Paul Fezziwig writes for and administers 'Green Cars Now' http://www.greencarsnow.com a website devoted to promoting fuel efficient vehicles and driving habits and Car Repair Ratings http://www.carrepairratings.com where consumers rate their auto mechanics.

Traffic Cones - Showing Us The Way

By Suruchi Sinha

Almost all of us, the regular 9 to 6 office goers, have confronted with the experience of getting jammed in a traffic snarl.

Courtesy:

1. An unfortunate accidents that woke the world around a certain amount of time ago, or

2. A roadside work on progress under the able instructions of the authority in civil construction of a municipality.

Let the cause be anything. A traffic jam is always a disgusting, abominable, damn... jam! Nothing equals in wasting precious time of ours. In most of the times, some impatient souls amongst us take to it with 'sleeves up' and proceed over with (voluntary or involuntary) sneering jeers at the whistling traffic inspectors (poor they!).

For all of us it's a cauldron where each day we make our way in and out - knowingly or unknowingly. The only respite remains to be the sight of those conical bits of traffic cones. Lined in certain innovative pattern to guide the snarl from farther augmentation, like guiding angels, they help us to reach to the safe end of the asphyxia congestion.

Why not expense some words on these Traffic cones. Helping us to avoid a dose of crash and dent everyday by positively influencing numerous cases of disciplined driving sessions; they are no less than wonders of the modern science. At least for those who identify science on the terms of comfort, traffic cones are sure winners in banishing any chance of further ruin of time.

"Conically graduating up just like a sorcerer's hat, with flat bottom on the base of that they come in bright and prominent fluorescent stripes -visible on days and nights ...all to make our life safe on each road strides ..."

Prominently present all around the globe, they are global personification of road safety and orderly traffic flow. If road safety departments world over hail them because of the portability, for motorists and pedestrians, they are simple, uncomplicated structures that remain from blocking too much of important road space.

Thanks to rigorous R &Ds by companies dedicated towards enhancing road safety. These simple, portable, yet effective and stable, traffic cones now come in a flexible, folding design with twin retro reflective collar, innovative LED on the top fitted with a static and flashing function, and all enhanced base strength.

So the good news is that the traffic cones are going to be more effective, visible and stable. God's goodness! Till there are no signs of improvement in traffic condition, these added specialties in traffic cones can offer us some more reprieve from lurking dangers of road clashes.

Till all the measures in congested road chaos are met, there is not a slight glint of doubt that traffic cones would continue to rule.

And we, with another tinge of jeering session of course, would happily follow these conical hats with bright orange stripes on. With compulsion in most of the times ...of course!

You Need A Mustang V8 4sale

By Mike Herman

Have you recently noticed an advertisement for a Mustang V8 4sale at a reasonable price? Seeing that advertisement was probably an exciting moment that was quickly over shadowed by doubts and fears. Mustang's can be extremely expensive and high powered Mustang V8s can be much more expensive than the basic model. Finding one at a good price might be the equivalent of winning a small lottery, until you start asking yourself questions.

Many people who become aware of a Mustang V8 4sale are first worried about maintaining their vehicle. All vehicles, new or used, require almost constant basic maintenance to keep them in top condition. This is everything from oil changes and tire rotations to having fluids flushed and replaced. In addition to preventative care there are also going to be those repairs that sneak up on even the most responsible car owner. Dealing with these things with a normal car can be hard enough but having to maintain a more expensive car can be intimidating.

The good news is that most new and used Mustangs are a great investment. People who notice a used Mustang V8 4sale and later purchase it usually do not have any major complaints. Since Mustang V8 vehicles are very popular there are dozens of web sites filled with information on preventative maintenance tips and tons of auto shops that specialize in repairing Mustangs available at the first sign of trouble. If you are worried about paying a lot of money for parts if you do need repairs set your mind at ease. There are hundreds of online auto part dealers that specialize in providing individuals with reasonably priced Mustang V8 parts.

Taking a chance and investing in a Mustang V8 4sale is usually much better than settling on a less expensive or lower quality vehicle. The money that you have temporarily saved will more than likely get eaten up by repair bills. A lot of used cars that are low quality to begin with begin breaking down almost the second the warranty is up. While most states have special lemon laws to help prevent people from purchasing cars that break down the moment they get off the dealership lot that only provides a limited amount of coverage. The law can do nothing to help you get compensation for the normal wear and tear that occurs in the natural course of a cars life.

Remember, lower quality vehicles include lower quality mustangs. If you notice a Mustang V8 4sale and then also see an older model Mustang for sale that does not have the same high quality engine available do not let yourself get distracted. A fully loaded Mustang V8 4sale is a much better investment then a basic Mustang that might have a cheaper price tag. They are known for their reliability and will usually have a higher resale value than there less advance counter parts. Also you want to purchase a car that you will really enjoy. Settling for a cheaper car that has less features could haunt your later when start wishing for a more reliable and comfortable vehicle.

Review - 2008 Buick Lucerne

By Brian Lebow

We're on the Road in the 2008, Buick LUCERNE

The Good: Very nice exterior styling, decent list of standard features, good engine options, roomy, quiet and comfortable interior, very safe;

The Bad: Handling is lackluster, and steering is numb.

Overall: The Lucerne is a great looking American made sedan, offering a well designed, nicely appointed, safe and very plush ride. Power: Available V-8 where most of the competition offers V6.

The 2008 Lucerne is Buick's six passenger sedan, one of Buicks newest models, initially introduced for 2006. Though the name may be new, it picks up where the LeSabre and upscale Park Avenue left off. The Lucerne can be had in XC, CXL, and CXS trim levels. Standard on the XC and CXL is the 3800 V6 which outputs just 197 horsepower. Opt up to find Buick's 4.6-liter Northstar V8 as an option on the CXL and standard on the CXS, with 275 horsepower it offers plenty of power for the large sedan. The competition has largely moved to five speed transmission, while the Lucerne offers a smooth shifting four speed automatic transmission, standard across all trim levels. The down trim CXL looses the optional V8 this year, and the high end CXS model gets a power tilt-telescoping steering column. Lucerne Super is now available topping the line with increased handling, unique interior and exterior styling cues, more power (4.6-liter V8 outputting 292 horsepower), and other upgrades.

The Lucerne is Buick's flagship sedan, a large front wheel-drive, four door that is family friendly, a best friend on that long road trip. Exterior styling has been updated from previous Buicks it's certainly more modern than your fathers Buick. Nostalgic drivers will enjoy the ride and Buick hopes it will appeal to a younger driver with the updated design. Demanding drivers may find 'love at first drive' behind the wheel of the Buick Lucerne, and it's definitely great for the long family or business trip! The Lucerne provides a plush, absorbent and very comfortable ride, thanks to the soft suspension tuning. The integrated rounded headlights and chrome waterfall grille complete the front fascia nicely.

Safety

The Lucerne scored best possible marks in Government Front, Driver and passenger and rollover crash tests; and four out of five stars for side crash front and rear. The Lucerne has a number of standard safety features, they include: six air bags, including an industry-first dual-depth front passenger air bag, Stability control is standard on CXS and Super models, optional on V6 models, rear child safety seat anchors/locks, theft-deterrent system-pass key, Tire Pressure monitoring (TPMS), 1 year of On-Star Directions with Turn-by-Turn Navigation. The lane departure warning system is a slick system that (as the name implies) alerts you if you cruise out of your lane, without your turn signal active. Also cool (optional) technology is the Side Blind Zone Alert which activates a light on your side mirror if there is a vehicle in your blind zone. Very useful, smart technology! All come with stellar five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper protection.

Driving Impressions

You'll notice as soon as you jump inside the Lucerne the solid build quality, you feel safe inside. It's an upscale environment! As you drive around town and on the freeway the car is quiet inside, with virtually no road noise. The Lucerne has great fit & finish! Interior build quality can be a mis-match of great and sub-par quality materials, as there is some cheap plastic used inside the sedan. The gauge cluster is clean and straight forward. A nice function within the gauge cluster is the driver information center, which allows you to scroll through information, such as: Tire Pressure, Gas Mileage, Fuel range, Two Trip computers, and more. The CXS has adaptive Magnetic Ride Control shock absorbers, which tighten up the ride of the large sedan, especially when cornering, making it more fun on the long and winding road. There is virtually no steering feedback, brake feel is fine, but braking distance (in panic situations) is longer than most comparable size vehicles.

Thank you for calling On-Star!

One of my favorite features over the past couple years has become On-Star! On-Star offers a few levels of service, emergency assistance, turn-by-turn directions and hands free calling. We're discussing the turn-by-turn direction service, which is like having an unlimited set of maps in the trunk and a friend to look through them and verbally (and visually) tell you how to get to your destination, even if you don't know the name of where you're headed. We were on a road trip out of town and pressed the on-star button to find the nearest Mexican restaurant (even though we had no idea the name or location), it was so great! That's just one of the many great ways On-Star can help!

My sister-in-law was making an out of state drive recently, over a thousand miles with one of the kids along to see family out of state. Only because On-Star was there, that she could (comfortably) make the drive by herself. The service can be a lifesaver in the event something unforeseen happens.

To use On-Star, you press the button at the bottom of the rear view mirror, and usually very quickly someone is on the line to help you. You tell them where you're headed (either city, state and address - or they can look it up for you), they map it for you and directions are sent to the vehicle. During this time, the radio is muted while you discuss your needs with the operator. After the operator has found your destination, the call is ended, the radio comes back on and Directions are then sent to the vehicle. The audio turn-by-turn information (turn left at Route 66 in one mile) and the same info is updated as you drive, by text display, either on the radio (if you don't have a touch screen system) or on your driver information center (inside the gauge cluster). It's a simple solution to a problem that's been around since the car was first invented, now that I can go anywhere, how do I get there? On-Star answers the question, at the touch of a button, every time!

The Way You Feel Inside

Comfortable, spacious cabin, clean design with solid materials, the way you're coddled inside a Buick, is like few others. The controls are simple and even though it's 2008 there's no need to break out the manual to operate any of the systems. Also, this Buick has some cool available technology; like the heated washer fluid, to keep the windshield wipers from freezing to the glass on cold winter days, the Blind Zone Alert system, Lane Departure Warning system, On-Star, available touch screen nav system, Heated and cooled front seats, power sunroof - This ain't your fathers Buick! Even if you didn't grow up with a Buick in the garage and aren't reminiscing the Lucerne is very nicely appointed. With the numerous powertrain options and trim levels, it's easy to find one in this $27 - $39k price range to make your own. If you're looking for a stylish, modern sedan with seating for up to six, the Lucerne should definitely top your list of American made (the Lucerne is made in the motor city) vehicles to test drive.

Stowage

When you remember your first Buick, you remember the large roomy interior and big trunk. This Buick doesn't deviate from that legacy, in the updated Lucerne. You'll find a large spacious interior and lots of trunk space for your luggage after (or on) a long trip. Trunk space is measured at 17 cubic feet. As you'll see in the photos, it's good sized space for this legenday name plate's new sedan!

By the Numbers

By the new 2008 fuel rating the Buick Lucerne CXS with Northstar 4.6-liter V8, and 275 Horsepower - is rated at 15 city / 23 highway, and we averaged just under 19 MPG on regular fuel, combined (city and highway) driving. (CX and CXL - 3.6-liter V6 Engine is rated at 16 City/25 MPG)

 Buick LUCERNE Sticker Price EPA

CX 3.8-liter V6 $26,755 16/25 highway
CXL 3.8-liter V6 $29,400 16/25 highway
CXL Special Edition 4.6-liter V6 $31,385 16/25 highway
CXS 4.6-liter V8 $35,845 15/23 highway
Super 4.6-liter V8 $38,630 15/22 highway

Water As Vehicle Energy

By RG Crosby

The use of water as vehicle energy is one of the many alternatives to our dependency on petroleum products that must be investigated. If found to be a viable solution it should become mass marketed and used to its fullest extent. If we do not start creating, re-creating, or evaluating alternatives to the petroleum dependency that we are addicted to, this planet will not survive in its current state for the many generations to come. The time is now to make the changes necessary to assure that our children and our grandchildren do not have to pay for the habits and sins of their forefathers.

Using water as vehicle energy is not a new concept. In fact the automotive use of water for energy has been around for over 90 years, with patented devices that can actually separate water into a gas. This patented device, using a small amount of electricity out of your car or truck battery, can take regular water (H2O) and convert it into Hydroxy (HHO), also called Brown's Gas. This conversion provides a lot of energy, burns very efficiently, and is much more environmentally safe than total use of petroleum products that are polluting the earth today. The end product remains - water!

The first internal combustion engines were introduced over 200 years ago and used hydrogen as a fuel. The idea of gasoline had not even been conceived yet. Many patents had been applied for, obtained, and then forgotten. And yes, you can build a hydrogen-on-demand system yourself, using information from the Internet and the U.S. Patent Library. But let's face it - you'll have to filter mountains of old US patents, read thousands of pages and diagrams, go through months or years of backyard tests, road tests, and heavy expenses on tooling and materials. Or you can purchase one of the newest manuals on how to apply this concept more cheaply and easier than researching for yourself.

Mobile Magazine says: HHO provides the atomic power of hydrogen, while maintaining the chemical stability of water. Another interesting fact is that pound for pound HHO gas is 3 times more potent than gasoline! HHO is a fast growing trend for boosting performance and total miles per gallon (MPG) in converted vehicles.

We must turn the clock back. We must eliminate harmful exhaust emissions that pollute the environment and contribute to global warming. Reducing petroleum demand and our economic dependency on it is an imperative. Water is available nearly everywhere and we need very little of it for the family car or company truck if we converted to the water. An added benefit would be reducing engine operating temperatures which would also help to prevent global warming. The cleaner burning fuel will add water and oxygen into the atmosphere instead of the amount of fossil fuel now polluting it.

As a world that is becoming so much smaller due to ever-expanding technology, we need - as a combined community of humans - to use the information we have and the capability for research to benefit our future generations and save this planet that has taken such good care of us. The time is now, the need is immense, and we must work together if we are to survive. A good place to start could be using water as vehicle energy and proving to others that there are alternatives to the over-consumption and pollution of our natural resources.

Finding alternatives to the plundering of our planet must become the most pressing issue of our society today. We all need to do our part. I'll start at http://powerupnow.blogspot.com

Cleaning your body and becoming more healthy will assist you in your efforts to improve the planet also at http://thenanas2cents.blogspot.com

Drive Using Water - How To Harness The Power Of Hydrogen

By Carlo Leon Guerrero

We all know that water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen. Did you realize that hydrogen is one of the most efficient energy sources known to man? Did you know that you can actually drive using water as fuel? Technology today enables us to safely harness the power of hydrogen and use that power to supplement other energy sources.

I can show you today, how you can extract hydrogen from ordinary distilled water; and use it to partially power your car, truck or other vehicles, greatly reducing your dependency on gasoline.

It is not yet possible to power engines using only water but in time that will come to be. But it is possible to drive using water, or rather the hydrogen extracted from water as a supplemental fuel source. So why should you be interested in this technology?

Here are a few reasons:

1) You will improve your vehicles efficiency.

2) You will burn much less gasoline.

3) You will help to improve and protect the environment by reducing carbon monoxide emissions.

4) This technology actually extends the life of your engine.

5) You will save a lot of money.

So, you must be thinking that this technology is some sort of "rocket science" but nothing could be farther from the truth. This is actually a very simple process; and it is not even a newly discovered process; it is decades old. Most people have never heard of this because many companies... think "big oil" companies were determined that this technology should remain hidden so as to protect their own interests without regard for the general good of the people and the environment.

Harnessing the power of hydrogen, the ability to drive using water, will be a world changing event. So you might be wondering just how this is possible, and how it works. Well, read on...

To drive using water, you will install a simple kit, the key element being a small container of distilled water containing a small measure of baking soda. A tiny electrical current provided by your battery creates a chemical reaction, producing HHO gas, which is very highly combustible. This gas is routed into you intake manifold or carburetor where it is ignited and burned as fuel.

Most vehicles converted to this process will double their mileage; some people even report tripling their mileage; and that means big savings at the gas pump!

As added benefits, you will find that your engine runs more smoothly and has increased power as well.

If you are interested in saving a lot of money on fuel, and who isn't with gas prices being what they are today, I encourage you to check out the link below.

You will learn how you can drive using water as fuel. I know that you will be glad you did.

Carlo Leon Guerrero has an eye on protecting the environment and providing people with information about economical, renewable fuel resources. He believes that hydrogen is the future fuel of choice and that HHO technology represents the first step toward fully hydrogen powered vehicles. You can find out more information at http://www.gas-saving-solutions.com.
